French sewing table

SCORE!!!! Found this adorable little table at a thrift store.

I just loved her color and she already had a distressed look to her, so I knew right from the beginning I was NOT
going to paint over her natural distress and patina.

But what I did do, was take a wonderful MAGIC ERASER to the top of the table. I knew I couldn't hurt it
since it had obviously been a used table. But I didn't want to do anything to the top until I
got the old marker spots and food off of it. It worked like a charm.
I then lightly sanded the top.

I then of course went to the wonderful GRAPHICS FAIRY,
and found this great graphic. I had imagined
this table being a great craft or sewing table; and
on her graphics page was this old French graphic with
a sewing loom on it. I was in LOVE!!!!

So I used my carbon paper to get the design down,

and I started painting, and painting and painting.

This is what she was beginning to look like. But I wanted more,
so I sanded the top again and then glazed the top with with a dark glaze.

This is how BEAUTIFUL she turned out. Its like the graphic has been
there the whole time and was worn with the table...
I am so happy how it turned out.
I hope you have a beautiful day.

  1. Wow! It looks amazing. I'm a new follower... and just love your projects. Can I ask what you used to sand the top with - was it by hand or did you use a sander?

  2. Kathryn, I just used a FINISH sanding block. you can buy them at your local hardware store. Or you could use 200 grit sandpaper and hand sand it.
Thanks for following. Can't wait to check out your blog.

  20. Please help a newbie get that gorgeous effect:
Once I download from the Graphic's Fairy onto my computer, I'm lost...
Did you just print it out the right size (how? my paper size is just 8 1/2 x 11?)
Use carbon paper or ??? to transfer the design before you hand-painted in the lettering?

I hope you can lead me in the right direction.

  25. To Mary, you are a no comment reply blogger, so I could not email you to answer you question. What I do is once I print off my graphic, I use my scanner/copier, which is part of my printer and enlarge the graphic, I usually end up having to tape the papers together. Then I use carbon paper to transfer the image. I hope this helps...any more questions and you can e-mail me again..Thanks for stopping by.....Karin

  26. Love this color! Can you tell me how you got the design onto the table? Did you trace the front of the design onto the carbon paper and what did you use to do that? It is beautiful!
