MOD cabinet given a FRESH START with General Finishes

Its time for this months Fab Furniture Flippin Contest.

This month’s contest is sponsored by General Finishes and the theme is Fresh Start. General Finishes Chalk Style Paint is a casual chalky interior matte paint available in 20 contemporary colors.

This month’s challenge was to take an old piece of furniture and give it a “Fresh Start” by using General Finishes new line of chalk paint.

 

This is the cabinet I started with. It was on old MOD record cabinet.

The doors had fallen off and were thrown out.

I loved the design of the piece just not the color.

I decided to use General Finishes Chalky Paint in

Charleton Blue for the outside.

On the inside I coated the whole thing with General finishes Milk Paint in Seagul Gray.

Then I took a Geometric Floor stencil and used my Charleton Blue Chalky Paint to
stencil the geometric form on the back of the cabinet.

After it was all dry I coated the whole thing with General Finishes  high performance flat Finish

I still can't believe what a difference a nice coat of paint made on this piece.
Its the perfect cabinet for the side of the bed or the end of the couch.

Free ROADSIDE RESCUE Desk Makeover

Hello again, my BEAUTIES!

I have an interesting makeover for you today.

Now You may remember me posting on my INSTAGRAM acct.

when I was driving to Costco and saw this baby on the side of the road.

I did the old RUBBER NECK "what is that...??? is that a piece of furniture I could redo" 

Dealo in my truck.

I quickly turned my truck around and drove into the driveway to pick her up.

 I am not going to lie when I say "SHE WAS A BEAST"

This baby was wood and most likely had been hand made by someone.

She wasn't the prettiest thing but once I had made up my mind to pick her up I knew I had to give her a chance.

 First things first....

I couldn't figure out WHY in the picture above this one why the top had taken the paint so oddly.

Once I started investigating I figured out it was because the top had been formica.

That was a no-go for the makeover so I got to getting that stuff off.

That required my heat gun, a scraper and time.

Whomever built this used some super-deee-duper... indestructible glue.

THAT WAS FUN!!

 Once I got all the formica off, you could see what it had done to the top.

Again, it wasn't pretty.

Now I know this piece isn't some antique stunning beauty that could easily be transformed with a little paint.

Most people that saw this piece wondered why I had pulled it out of the trash.

But you know what, I HATE to see stuff go in the landfill that can still serve a purpose;

and this desk still had a life and a purpose left to fill.

So I put on my thinking cap to figure out a NO COST To me way to transform this piece while still making it functional.

I wandered around the garage and out to the shed to see what I could use to fix this top.

I stumbled upon a piece of paneling that I had saved from the tear down of my ART STUDIO MAKEOVER.

I grabbed it, laid it on the top and cut it to fit.

I nailed it down when it was done, but I still needed something to finish the edge.

 I had this decorative molding that I had used on other makeovers and decided to wrap that around the edge to give it more detail.

Here you can see my clever trick for nailing trim up when you don't have a second set of hands to hold on your trim piece. I used my staple gun to staple it in place and then nailed it in. When it was all nailed in I pulled out the staples with pliers.

Once everything was in place I grabbed my Americana Decor Chalky finish paints and painted the the piece.

I used RELIC and VINTAGE and did a little combo and wet blending on the top to give it even more character.

While that was drying I just spray painted the old hardware that was originally on there with some silver paint.

It was a ton of work, but I am so happy to have saved her from the landfill.

 I brought her to my booth and I am happy to say she is now in someone's home,

enjoying a second chance.

So just remember this piece, next time you see that beat up, beastly piece of furniture; 

think about giving it a second chance and keeping it out of the landfill.

NAUTY Pallet art! Nautical Anchor art...get your minds out of the gutter......:)

 

Good Morning my BEAUTIES!

Man does that feel good to say again!

I have been a busy little beaver getting lots of little projects done

and trying to stock pile some finished furniture since

its down time for shopping at the booth.

I decided with the spring season and hopefully "fingers crossed" 

summer like weather soon, that I should start working on some

fun COTTAGE art.

(not that I have a cottage, but for those that do..and love to shop...I love to make this kind of stuff for them) 

I decided to make some NAUTY pallet art....You know.......?? NAUTICAL...:)

 

 I put my boards together like I always do..You can see the post HERE on

how I assemble them.

I used CeCe Caldwells Smokey mountain and vintage white to give the boards a wash of color.

I then used my silhouette program to trace and cut a simple anchor shape.

 

 Once I had used my transfer tape to transfer my vinyl stencil to my boards I used CeCe Caldwells

Coral paint to paint on my anchor. I love the contrast of the bright Coral color against

the faded blue and white boards.

When it was all dry I waxed and buffed the boards.

 I love the simple fun of this piece.

I am not normally a nautical person

but after being in Florida for spring break

I just felt the need to do something

like this!

FIRECRACKER RED Nightstand Painted Makeover

Good Day My BEAUTIES! 

I hope the winter finds you well..

We are under another of Mother Natures Temper Tantrums

here in Michigan, so it is SNOW SNOW SNOWING....AGAIN!!

and its FREEZING!!  So much so that even the furnace

in the garage was no match.

So the next painted furniture had to be done in my kitchen.

I decided to pick a smaller piece since I was gonna be inside..

I grabbed this little nightstand out of my stash. 

It was a heavy little sucker..solid wood..but as you can see,

it had been used and abused.

I got it for $5 and loved the details, but I felt they were being lost with the oak.

Thats when I decided to try out American Paint company's

FIRECRACKER RED

Can I tell you...I am in LOVE with this RED.

I filled the old holes from the outdated handles and once the filler was dry 

started painting.

It is so deep and rich..its my new favorite color...(it changes daily..:)) 

After 2 coats of paint dried,  I was able to give her a good waxing. 

I let my drill buffing brush do the distressing as it buffed the wax. 

I just love how it just makes everything POP!

I added some new clean crisp White knobs to give it that classic red and white PUNCH!

I am so thrilled with how this turned out.

Now she is waiting in the shop for someone to pick her up and 

bring her home!
