Updating a Farmhouse Style Table and Bench with General Finishes

beat up old farmhouse table before update with general finishes gel stain and paint
Welcome back my Beauties.
I am finally back with a makeover.
A while back I picked up this orangey pine table and bench.
You can't see from the pic, but it was pretty scratched and dented on the top, and the legs had some nice chew marks from a dog.
It was in great shape structurally, just needed a little lovin!

I knew I didn't want to go full sand and stripping so I lightly sanded the top and cleaned it and pulled out my

You can see from the photo here, what a difference just one coat of the gel stain did. I did a second coat after it dried just to add more warmth.

Once that was dry I decided to protect the top with

While the top was finishing drying I mixed up a custom color of
It was 3 parts Persian Blue and 1 part Driftwood.
I just wanted to gray up the blue a little.

I love how the gray blue worked with the warm walnut color of the top.
I am also happy to say it sold in like 2 days.
INSERT HAPPY DANCE :)

I love how the gel stain, accented the little grooves and markings that had been left on the top.

Hopefully I will get some more furniture makeovers done before the snow flies...
Its coming, I can feel it.
So I better get moving.

BROKEN TABLE and Old Cabinet door turned WINE BAR.

 Welcome back my Beauties.
I have a fun little makeover today.
Come see how I rescued this old broken table and turned it into a Beautiful Wine Bar.

One day while I was at the thrift store they were carrying this table out off the floor.
I asked if they were selling it and they said "yeah, but the top broke"
I asked how much they were going to charge and they said a couple bucks.
I grabbed that sucker and stuck it in my cart.
I instantly knew what I would use to fix it.

I went right out to my shed and grabbed this old cabinet door I had been saving.
It was the perfect fit.
I quick gave it a light sanding and starting working on my project.

I grabbed some old hardware that I had been saving and grabbed my valspar copper spray paint and gave them a couple coats of copper spray paint and started working on the other parts of my project.

Next I grabbed my General Finishes Driftwood Milk paint and started painting the cabinet door.

Once it was dry I grabbed my Americana Gel stain in walnut and gave it an antique finish by wiping on and wiping off the stain.

Once it was all painted I used my Black and Decker drill to drill some holes and add my hardware to cabinet door so it could be used as a serving tray for the drinks.

Once the handles were on the wine bar was ready.
The old door sits perfectly on top of the old base.

I was so happy to be able to save this old base by salvaging an old door that I had in my

Updating a dresser with General Finishes Java Gel and Paint

beat up old scratched cherry vintage dresser makeover

Welcome back my Beauties!
I know I have told you before why I haven't been around much, but for those just joining us,
we are still spending much of the time at the hospital with my mom and now we have sent her to a hospital further away in the hopes that they will be able to find out whats wrong.
So of course I don't spend much time here anymore.
But every once in a while, I catch a little break and I can sit down and I have a few moments to show off one of the makeovers I had finished before all this started.
Today is one of those days.
You can see from the above dresser how bad of a condition it was in.
Mostly it was just surface scratches.

The only major issue was a trim piece that was missing from the side.
I cut a piece I had to size and used my Ryobi air strike nailer to set it in place.
Once that was in place I could start my makeover.
I decided since most were really surface scratches I could get away with just a light sanding and then use my General Finishes Java Gel stain on it to bring out the richness of the wood.

You can see here after two coats how much better it looked!

I wanted to add a little pop of color so I chose General Finishes Somerset Gold
When it was dry I used their High performance top coat to seal all of it.
I added some simple gold hardware to finish the piece off and add a little more class.
I couldn't believe the difference with just a little bit of TLC.

It looks like a totally different piece.

I know this was a quick and fast write up for this post,
but as I said, I have very little time!
I hope you still enjoyed it even though I didn't get to spend a lot of time with you!
I hope you can forgive me!
Until next time,
Have a Beautiful day!

Blue Bar Makeover Using Gel Stain and Paint.

 Hello again my Beauties!
Its time for another Makeover, using a product I have never used before!

I started with this fun little bar that I had purchased at a garage sale for $5
You can see that it had seen plenty of use and was a bit beat up.

Recently I had purchased some General Finishes Java Gel Stain.
I had never tried the Gel Stain before and was anxious to see how this would work out.
The top was pretty bad.
SO I had my fingers crossed that I would have to pull out my sander.

I lightly sanded the top with a small piece of sand paper just to make sure there was no glue or boogers..(you know how often I get blessed with boogers on my thrift pieces...EWWW)
Once that was done I wiped it off with some windex, let it dry and put on my Gel Stain.
IT WAS SO EASY!! I wiped it on...let it dry and did another coat.
THAT was IT! No sanding and staining...just clean and wipe.
For the base I mixed up a custom color I like to call Blue Jean Blue and painted the base.
I waxed and distressed the base and she was ready to be photographed.

 Can you say LOVE!!!
Doesn't that look like wood grain.?!
That is just from me wiping and putting pressure in certain spots when wiping.
It gives it a faux grain look.

This was honestly one of the easiest makeovers I have done to date!
As for the Java Gel Stain!!! 2 thumbs up!
I plan on using it again and again!

I hope you enjoyed the latest makeover!
Until next time...
Go Make someones day BEAUTIFUL!
