Vintage Style Kitchen Lighting Update! Buh Bye Boob light!

Hello my Beauties! I am so excited to bring you today's makeover.

A couple weeks ago we finally got around to replacing our kitchen lighting.

One of the lights I desperately wanted to replace was the 

 BOOB light in our kitchen..

admit it....It looks like a BOOB!! 

Why oh WHY did I not notice this years ago when I bought it.

:)

I also wanted to replace this old chandelier.

This was one of my very first blog posts.

It was an old brass chandelier that I bought at a thrift shop for a couple 

bucks, painted and hung up.

Seriously...the post is so old I forgot what I kitchen even looked like back then.

One of the issues we had finding a different light for above our cooking area was that

we have an OLD house..Meaning we do not have Big Vaulted Ceilings or anything

where you can hang a big fancy pendant light because honestly it would get hit with a pan or something.

So we had to replace it with something Flush mount...

Not a lot of choices out there for this sort of light...

Or so I thought.

So there I am perusing online 

when I see THIS light..

I was thinking..how cool would this be,

but alas...its not flush mount ...

Then I start reading the description...

You can remove the center post....and have it be

semi-flush mount....

DO YOU HEAR ANGELS...?

I did..😇

I finally could have an awesome NON BOOB light in my kitchen.

and the even better part is they make a coordinating chandelier!

So I could have matching vintage lighting in my kitchen

than I didn't have to spray paint to match LOL!

so now my kitchen could have 2 Kichler 

vintage style lights.

I love the vintage touch that it added to our kitchen.

The vintage industrial design is punctuated with Clear Seedy Glass shades, reminiscent of glass jars that were a staple of 19th century American life.

We added the Edison style bulbs to add to the vintage style.

We couldn't be happier.

They add such character to our kitchen.

Is it weird to love a light...????

If its wrong...I don't wanna be right!

I joked that my kitchen wouldn't stay that clean 

past 3pm and I was right.

The kids came home and dropped their books on the table and started with homework

and it was back to that LIVED in LOOK that I just love~!

Exhaust Fan's don't have to be UGLY!

Good Morning my Beauties.

Today's post is a little different than my normal post.

We  have been working on so many projects this summer trying to play catch up.

One of the OH so NOT FUN projects we needed to tackle was putting in a new exhaust fan in our upstairs bathroom.

Now I KNOW what you are thinking...

EXHAUST FANS!! HOW EXCITING!!

Believe me...I know..:)

I think the reason it took us so long to tackle this project 

was the much understandable LACK of EXCITEMENT

of shopping for an exhaust fan.

Kinda like shopping for FILLINGS for your teeth..

YAH, you need em, but UM....I don't know care what you put in there as long as it doesn't fall out.

:)

You hear me?? :)

Yeah...THAT exciting.

Then while I was working on some other posts and stuff I remembered the sink from

National Builder Supply

DUH....BUILDERS SUPPLY...
NOT just sinks...
So I looked up Exhaust fans online..
NO NEED to get out of my paint clothes for the oh so exciting task..

While online I found this baby!!!

Broan Nutone Exhaust Fan

Its NOT UGLY!!!
Its actually PRETTY...

an Exhaust fan that looks good and does a job..

Say it ain't so!!!

I ordered it and it was here in a matter of days...

Now it was time to install..

Really this is the cruddy part..

not gonna lie...

I mean...

Here is our OLD one..

Honestly..I couldn't get Jimmy Fallons Character out of my head

when we were taking the old one out.

I guess over 15 years will do that to your

exhaust fan.

Once our weather cooled down here

the hubby finally agreed to go up in the attic 

to replace it.

It was still hot up there thanks to his BILLIONS and BILLIONS of

layers of insulation  (I swear the man would buy stock in it if he could)

You can imagine his excitement at getting to go through our

sons closet to get up into the attic...

crawling through the insulation,

careful to only crawl on the beams,

all to get to the bathroom exhaust fan.

Here you can see me being the OH SO HELPFUL 

and hilarious wife and handing him his screwdriver through the old exhaust fan 

hole. DOESN'T he look THRILLED.

Once we had removed the old one we cold replace the base of the unit and 

affix it to the studs in the ceiling.

He did all the wiring since he has done lots and lots of wiring.

Once it was installed it was time for me to affix the 

bulbs and the shade and listen to this baby PURR..

Now you will have to take my word for how pretty it is when its lit up.

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a light..

while its on...

YEAH...its kinda hard.

So I had to take the pic with it off..

But I tell you what..

My kids were astounded the first time they took a shower

and this sucker cleared the room almost

instantly of all the steam.

No More UGLY gross exhaust fans.

We are now HIGH CLASS with our FANCY 

pretty Exhaust fan!

Elkay Kitchen Sink and Parma Faucet Remodel Reveal

Good Morning my Beauties!

 I had a few minutes to spare this weekend and only a FEW;

so I thought I better quick snap some pictures of our new Kitchen Sink and Faucet Reveal.

(Meaning, it was clean, so this was the perfect opportunity to take pictures)

What can I say..we live REAL LIFE here and sometimes Real life ain't pretty. :)

I have to tell you...

I am IN LOVE! 

I mean whats NOT to love!????

I know, I am betting like ME; You are probably not a fan of doing dishes...

I HATE it...but this SINK and FAUCET makes things a LITTLE bit more Enjoyable.

Here is what we were dealing with before.

 I will have to admit..I am not a SINK fan...I have not had good luck over the years

with out sink choices....we have had enamel and cast iron and then this "quartz" type sink.

Non of them could stand the test of the
"ART IS BEAUTY" family.

My Hubby is a home brewer...

I am an artist...

My kids...well they are kids....

Our sinks take a beating, from paint to brewing equipment,

to kids leaving food sitting in the sink..

Its a mess...

This past sink was suppose to be a NO STAIN sink..

Yeah, it was....for a while....but even it couldn't handle us..

That's when we knew..it was time to go STAINLESS STEEL!

I won't bore you with the Chemical Miracle that this amazing compound is,

but sometime...when you are bored, look up how it was discovered...

then, someday when you are on a game show you will answer the winning question

of how stainless steel was invented...You won't be sorry..and you can

WOW your friends at dinner parties with your incredible knowledge...

But I digress....

Now it was time to replace the sink..

That's when I called in my super sexy (will work in his pajama's) 

Plumbing contractor...by the name of HUBBY

First things first..we took the doors off the cupboard..this makes it much easier to get to your work space...

2nd...TURN OFF WATER SUPPLY  

we have shut offs under the sink but just to be safe we always shut off the main water too..

and when disconnecting we keep a bucket underneath for the water in the lines and pipes that is sure to drain out when disconnected.

Once the sink was disconnected underneath and the mounting brackets were off we were 

able to remove the sink.

Now for the fun part..

after pulling out the old sink we needed to use a razor blade to carefully scrape off the old

caulk from around the old sink.

Then it was time to dry fit the sink and faucet .

It was finally time to put my new beauties in.

National Builder Supply was so kind in supplying me 

with the most awesome sink and faucet

and AMAZING customer service.

I will admit..even with me triple measuring everything and checking schematics

I still managed to screw it up and ordered 

something that wouldn't fit..

I had even said to my husband...That I had KNOWN..I was gonna screw SOMETHING up..

its just the way of DIY.

Well National Builder Supply was AWESOME with my return and speedy

exchange.

They didn't even make me feel stupid..

Which I am honestly pretty good at..:)

Once I had finally worked out what was going to work with my kitchen

I decided on the ELKAY lustersone deep single bowl sink 

and the DANZE Parma Kitchen Faucet. 
I am so happy with my choices.
Now onto the rest of my INSTALL.

Once we got the sink and faucet fitted it was time to start hooking up the plumbing.
I will admit right now, nothing ever goes as planned, which is why we NEVER do
plumbing on a Sunday, when if you have an emergency, you are SCREWED...:)
(just my 2 cents on the matter...I don't know how many horror stories I have heard about this happening to people)

We got the sink centered and then we installed the brackets to keep the sink in place.

Then it was onto the pipes.

 

Here is my hubby working the PUZZLE that is plumbing...to add to the fun, we decided to forgo our

old disposal..all it did was encourage the kids to throw soggy cereal and all kinds 

of other disgusting things in the sink...

Now they are forced to finish their cereal...(two birds...one stone)

Also we went from two drains to one so hubby had to cap off one of the old drains and re route the dishwasher that used to drain into the disposal.

Luckily, he has done this plumbing job many times and is WAY more patient than 

I ever would be.

 Needless to say, it was worth the effort and he was rewarded with
lots of kisses..(and me promising to wait to ask at least a week for him to HELP me with another project)   :)

 I have to tell you too..that this fits his 5 gallon brew pot and my giant restaurant skillet with room to spare...No more teetering pots and pans trying to fill and clean only to have them slip and spill all over the place.

I also waited a couple weeks to post to make sure that this stood up to our TOUGH set of standards.

I can tell you...Its amazing..I am honestly KICKING myself for not doing it sooner.

The sprayer on the sink makes for easy clean up and I feel like such a GOURMET 

with it in my kitchen.
