Antique Victorian Dresser Makeover using Milk Paint

Welcome back my Beauties!

Sorry its been so long.

I have been working on plenty of stuff, just out of practice for taking enough pics to make a blog post!

In fact on this one I didn't take a full BEFORE picture because I was so excited to get started.

I had already cleaned the drawer fronts and added new hardware before I even started to take pics.

You can see from the one I have that the base of this vintage dresser was in sad sad shape.

The drawers were o.k.; they just needed some cleaning and loving.

But it was missing all the hardware minus the keyhole covers.

I had purchased these cup pulls a while back and was saving them.

I wanted something shiny to go with the dresser makeover so I removed the keyhole covers and the new hardware and cleaned them all and got ready to paint them.

I knew I was going to go with some rich paint color so I wanted a rose gold to accent the piece.

I picked Rustoleums Rose gold spray paint and gave them two coats.

While the hardware was drying I gave the base a good scuffing and sanding and wiped it all down.

Once that was done I could start coating the base.

I picked General Finishes Milk paint in Westminster green to play off the vintage style of the piece.

Look at how great the rose gold plays off the dark wood and deep green paint!

I love it and for a second thought about where I could put it in my house, but then I remembered I already have too many dressers :)

So there you have it. 

One of the many makeovers I have been working on the last few months!

I was looking through some other makeovers and was shocked to see that there was still snow on the ground in some of them.

I am not ready to look at snow again for a while, so I will do those posts LATER!

Antique Depression Era Chest of Drawers given a Makeover!

Well, Welcome back my Beauties!
Sorry to be away for so long but as I am sure you all are experiencing, it has been dang hard to get back into the swing of things now that Christmas is over.

We were so busy with family time and my daughter preparing for her first musical production that time just seems to be slipping by.

I have been working on a few pieces down in my STUDIO during these freezing cold months, but I didn't have time to photograph all of them. 

But this baby I did!
I mean it was too gorgeous of a piece not to document!

I grabbed it for a steal at the thrift shop.

Mostly because one leg was really beat up and has some bad veneer damage on the fronts and sides. 

Lucky for me the really cool parts were in pretty decent shape and just needed some cleaning up and some love. 

I wanted to save as much of the original woodwork while updating at the same time. 

I removed all the really cool old hardware and gave it a good cleaning and a shot of some metallic spray paint. 

For the pieces I was going to save I just cleaned up the wood and wiped it with some General Finishes Brown Mahogany Gel Stain

It added the richness and protection back to the wood.

When that was done I decided I wanted to make the grain really POP so I used General Finishes Lamp Black Milk Paint. 

I gave it two coats and it totally changed the look of the piece.

I mean, would you look how that awesome grain just popped against the brass hardware and the black paint! 

I am a girl who loves color but every once in a while I really love to give a piece a feeling of drama.

I think this lamp black paint did the trick, don't you?

Now if I could only find about 20 more gorgeous pieces like this :)

I put it in my booth at Changing Thymes in Grandville Michigan

so here is hoping this once beaten up piece will get a new and fun life with another family.

Updating Husbands Plain Dresser to a Fabulous French Beauty

Welcome back my Beauties.
I'm jumping on real quick to show you how I quickly I transformed my husbands old dresser.
I had painted it way back in 2012 and it stayed this way until now.

You can see there how I took it from the beat up old state it was in to the simple white and dark stained top.
It worked great for us, but my husband wanted something a little more masculine and something with more that 3 large drawers.
When I found a piece that worked for him,
I figured I would just put this in my booth and sell it as it was.
But recently I discovered a fun new thing and decided this was the perfect piece to use this new thing on. :)
The NEW THING of course would be these fun colorful 
Furniture Transfers.

Like I showed you in my last makeover of this vintage Farm and Floral Dresser

Once I found out about these transfers I was hooked.

If you follow me on INSTAGRAM you will see me playing with them and putting them on my furniture as I work along. 

It takes patience but its worth it in the end.
I love how just adding this totally transformed the simple piece of furniture.

I love the subtle colors and vintage script so much.

I was so happy to discover them!
Plus I am happy to add that I brought this beauty into my booth and she is now sitting pretty in someone's home!
