French drop leaf table

Here is the story of an UGLY table that I turned into a French dream!!!
Look at the bottom..someone had nicely cut out a piece of chipboard and screwed it
underneath to give a nice (I hope you are catching the SARCASM)
bottom shelf. They didn't even finish it..They left the shelf as chipboard.
I felt so sad for this table.

I could see the diamond in the rough. I got out the screwdriver
and took off the LOVELY shelf. :)
I could see the improvement already.

Now I don't know what they used to protect the top on this table, but I
think it was a combination of shellac, wax, and maybe a thin layer
of bubble gum. It was awful!!
I sanded with 60 grit in 90 degree heat and that stuff was not coming off.
It was there to stay. Plus when they finished it there were HUGE
drips over the edge that were like pieces of plastic.
So on to plan B.

I primed the WHOLE table!!
and painted with a nice graphic from none other than
The Graphics Fairy

I glazed and distressed the top and here she is in all her glory!!!

I think she turned out B.E.A.U.T.F.U.L.

"A little powder, a little paint, makes a woman what she ain't"
(that's for my sister...she loves when I get sayings that are stuck in my head
stuck in hers...:)))))
Have a BEAUTIFUL day.

Really nice. I passed up a similar table since I promised my husband I wouldn't buy any more until I had cleared out what I have in the garage. Now I wished I had grabbed it. Good job.

Thanks everyone...I guess I forgot to mention that I printed off the graphic and and used transfer paper to draw on the table and then painted it in.

One more thing out of curiosity...adding to the value of this whole thing. How much did you buy the table for? How long did you work on it?

Again...love it! You are so talented!
