Old 70s dresser turned cool dudes dresser

Here is the free dresser I got for my little man last week before I got sick. I had hoped to get it done this weekend...but the tummy had other plans...So instead I slept....a lot...and therefore was well rested to start this project for my son.

Now I can see from the pictures it might not look too bad..but believe was not cool. It had these weird metal covered strips in the grooves to match the metal pulls, and of course that face spray on black fleck stuff to make the laminate look real?????

So I proceeded to pull out those strips and fill the holes with nail filler.

Once all that was dry I gave all of the pieces a quick light sanding and wiped them down. I then used my sprayer to apply primer. Now I swear to you I took a picture once I primed all of them..but like the dryer eats socks, my camera must magically delete pictures...:)

So here is a picture of them after their first coat of my favorite Ralph Lauren color Espresso brown. Its a deep almost black brown. I thought it would be perfect for my little mans room.

Once it was done I distressed it. I also must not forget that I sprayed the handles with Rust-oleums oil rubbed bronze spray paint. It looks so manly for my dudes room. :)

Here he is cheesing for his picture. He just loves his new dresser. Of course he already asked if he could use one of his drawers for toys!!!
