what do you do with a broken lamp shade??? You make a wreath of course!!!

So while I was suppose to be cleaning out my back art room/crap pile of everything in the house that needs a place..
I came across an old lamp shade that I had gotten at Goodwill with a lamp. I was interested only in the lamp base, but it came with the shade...so what the heck...:) Well when I got home I saw the shade was broken...So it went into "said" room....:)

While cleaning out the room (still not clean and now more crap everywhere because I dropped everything to make this) I came upon
the shade and thought.."the material is just too nice to just throw it away.

So I started cutting and this is where the AH-HA moment came in..

See...its broken...:) I cut away all the material and even saved the little hem from the top and the bottom.

I thought about what I could do with the left over broken frame, but thought I better not push my luck...

So I dug into the crap pile....oops I mean supplies and found a wreath form I had picked up at Goodwill for a buck, along with all my other materials

I started cutting into strips and wrapping the form. You can see the tutorial HERE . I made my rosettes with my material, used my hot glue gun to glue them down and thought..How can I hang this....OH YEAH...use the old hem from the lamp and glue tiny rosettes on it....:) EEEK!!!!

Now my mantle is finally almost ready for its reveal!!!! See I had to do all this, I had to get it done..
I hope you enjoyed this and can find someway to re purpose something to keep it from going in the landfill.
Have a BEAUTIFUL day...I will; except for the fact that I still have to clean up that Ding Dang room!!!!

"still not clean and now more crap everywhere because I dropped everything to make this." See! I totally understand that statement!!! How could you do anything else?
Love the wreath!

I understand about the crap, I mean, craft room. Can I admit I have TWO of them? I'm slowly turning one into a study for Hubby, a project so big it has its own blog. I just climb over the piles of crap/treasure in the other room.

The wreath is a stroke of genius, by the way. I love the texture of those rich, red roses. I think I have a strip of scarlet dupion silk silk. Somewhere in the crap room...
