Welcome back my Beauties!
I am so excited to show you this latest makeover!
I am so excited to show you this latest makeover!
A few months ago my nephew texted me to tell me there was a couple of dressers adjacent to a dumpster.
He sent me a pick and told me if I wanted them I had better grab them quick.
He told me they were damaged but I didn't care.
I have put a lot of dressers back together so I wasn't scared.
When we got them home I could better inspect the damage.
Most of it was water damage to the top.
The veneer was a total loss.
But like I said. I haven't walked away from a dumpster dresser makeover yet, and I wasn't going to start today.
So I got my handy dandy scrapper and got as much of the veneer off as I could.
Then it was time for the big guns.

I used my Belt Sander to take down all the damaged veneer I couldn't scrape off.
This is what it looked like after about 15 minutes with the belt sander.
Once I got it smooth and wiped off all the dust with some tac cloth
I was ready to stain.
I stained the top with some Ipswich Pine Stain
and when that was dry I used Wipe on Poly
Once that was done it was time to pretty up the base.
I wiped it all down and removed the hardware.
I am in LOVE with the "Handsome" colour by Velvet Finishes and I knew it would be the perfect color for this dresser.
I gave it two coats and it was ready to go.
I was THRILLED with how it turned out.
I didn't even have to do anything to the hardware.
Once the dresser was pretty again the hardware really showed off the style of the piece.
And LOOK at that TOP! This is what was underneath that thin and broken VENEER! A SOLID oak top! ????
As usual I want to keep it so I know I have to get it out of my house before I start planning a place for it.
As usual, a little elbow grease and this FREE Rescued Dresser is BETTER than new!
I love transforming those pieces that were destined for the landfill and giving them new life!
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover.
