beat up old vintage waterfall dresser in need of a makeover and saving with paint
Welcome back my Beauties!
I didn't think I would be back so quick but the cold weather has me not wanting to leave the house, so I figured I would work some old pieces I did.
Its funny because not only did it take me a long to time to write this post, it took me a long time to work on this dresser.
I am pretty sure it sat in my garage for at least a year.
I bought it at a thrift store because I loved the veneer.
Its that paper thin stuff so I knew I couldn't touch it with sandpaper or it would disappear so I had to work out how I was going to still show it off.

The top was pretty gouged up and heavily stained so I knew I had to paint it.
I lightly sanded the parts I was going to paint and wiped them all down real well and went to my paints to decide on a color.

General Finishes Coastal blue milk paint waterfall dresser makeover
I decided to go with General Finishes Coastal Blue Milk Paint because I loved how it played with the wood tone that I would be keeping.

Here you can see how it looked with just one coat on. I had decided to just really clean up the top drawer that had the most interesting grain and use paint on the rest to showcase that part.
It had the original hardware which I just clean up and put back on.

And here it is in its Coastal Blue Beauty!

I loved how the original hardware played off the dark blue and the wood tone of the top drawer.
(I also want to know how much I miss seeing GREEN GRASS;
I was for sure not made for winter) :)

This was a hard piece to bring into the booth because I wanted to keep it, but really had no place for it.

But happy to say its enjoying its new life in someone else's home.
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover and hopefully I will get a chance to write up some new posts while I wait out the winter.
Until next time,
Have a Beautiful Day!

Custom Blue Green Nightstand Makeover using General Finishes Milk Paint and Gel Stain

outdated orange pine nightstand makeover using general finishes paint and gel stain
Welcome back my Beauties!
I feel like it has been so long!
I have still been working like crazy on makeovers,
but spending more time just getting things into the booth and not having time to show you the befores and afters.
(If you follow me on instagram stories you can see what I am up to when I don't have a chance to blog about it)
I know I am not the only one that felt like January was 4 months long, and now February is feeling like its about 2 weeks long.

One of the things I did get a chance to photograph was this old outdated orange yellow nightstand.
I loved the bones of it but the color just wasn't doing it for me.

In order to get started on this, I decided to go with a two tone finish.
I cleaned the piece up and got to work.
For the drawer fronts I took off the old hardware and used General Finishes Gray gel stain in two coats to give the fronts a nice light gray color.
When they were dry I used their Gel coat to seal and protect.

For the base I decided to mix up a custom color.
I used one to one ratio
and General Finishes Emerald green for a deep green blue color.
I love how it turned out and how deep the color was.
It feels eclectic but with a little nautical color too.
I grabbed some Vintage lattice brass knobs from my collection to add another layer of fun to the piece.

I love how easy it was to transform it from outdated to
Eclectic!

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out.
I am so happy to be back with you guys.
I already photographed two other pieces this same day so hopefully I will be able to show you more soon.
Until then,
Have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Almost Forgotten Outdated Vanity Makover

Hitting Replay on a favorite Makeover and THANKFUL there is no SNOW in sight!
Welcome back my Beauties.
Now as you know I do a LOT Of makeovers.
I do so many makeovers that sometimes they get FORGOTTEN.
Kind of like this little number that I did and loved.
It sold in the first two days in the booth and I think because it sold so fast
I forgot to show the makeover.
Plus I did this makeover back in JULY...of 2015!!!
(you will notice the nice lush colors and green of everything; in stark contrast to our March 1st snow storm that we are experiencing right now in Michigan)

So this is how I bought it.
I thought it was just a nice light stained vanity upon buying it at the thrift shop.
I thought; maybe I will put some hardware on it and clean it up and it will be just fine.

But when I got it home in good lighting I discovered that this wasn't in fact stain, but brown paint finished to look like stain. You could see the paint flecking off the top here.

So I decided to update it with a coat of General Finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint
After 2 coats I lightly distressed around the edges to give it a time worn look, and sealed it with General finishes Satin finish.
Plus since the piece was missing the drawer hardware I decided to add these Vintage green glass knobs to the drawer fronts.
I loved how the gray and the green went together.

I also left the original gold edging peeking through to add detail to the piece.

I loved how it turned out and I can't believe I almost forgot to show you guys.
I think all the snow is starting to pack between my ears.
:)
I need some warm sunshine to melt that up!
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover.
Until next time have a hopefully WARM and Beautiful day!.

Gray and Gold Distressed HoneyComb Stencilled Dresser Makeover

beat up free dresser turned gray and gold honeycomb stencilled beauty bohochic home decor makeover before and after

Welcome back my BEAUTIES!
Sorry I have been absent so far this week.
Soccer season has started and that means lots of running around.
Not to mention the stress of try outs and waiting to see if my daughter would be making the team..
HAPPILY she made the Varsity team, and we basically started out of the GATE with double scrimmages on Saturdays and a game under our belt already!
I'm not even playing and I am TIRED!!
:)
Anywhoo...what I did manage to work on was this awesome free dresser that a sweet friend of mine gave me.

The same friend that gave me this Beautiful Mid Century Mod dresser  that I made over!
They have been going through a lot also so if you have any good thoughts you could send their way I know they would appreciate it!
My friend is pretty awesome as well as her whole family, and when they had some furniture to unload they knew who would take it off their hands! :)
I love furniture donations!!! :)

To get the piece started I gave it a good sanding and wipe down and then chose
to cover the whole piece with.

It was looking better already.
Now you know I can't leave a plain ole boxy dresser alone.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and then I remembered I had this awesome stencil!
http://amzn.to/2nJc3pq
I grabbed some gold paint and my brush and got to work.

The dresser had some imperfections in it so I didn't want my gold paint to look to perfect or even. I stencilled on all the drawer fronts and then lightly sanded over it to give it a bit of a distressed feel.
Once it was dry I but the original hardware that I spray painted gold back onto the dresser.

And this is how it turned out.
I love the gray and gold color combination.
Its feels a bit classy, a bit bohemian, and mostly, FUN!

When I look at it now it makes me smile.

Well that's it for this makeover!
I hope you liked the transformation.
I am going to try to squeeze in one more makeover before next weekend since we will be leaving for a fun spring break as a family.
We are needing the down time of no schedules and no ALARM clocks for a week!
Until next time,
I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL day!

MID CENTURY MOD Dresser Makeover MCM!

bassett mid century mod mcm bow front dresser makeover artisbeauty.net

Welcome back again my Beauties!
I am so excited to show you my latest makeover.
A Mid Century Mod Dresser MAKEOVER!
This makeover was more fun than usual for me because I knew this one was going to be a KEEPER before I even started.
I have been wanting to replace my GIGANTIC Entertainment Center turned Clothing Armoire (you can see that makeover HERE) for a while now.
http://www.artisbeauty.net/2013/02/free-entertainment-center-turned-french.html
Over the years my room has evolved and I was wanting to go with a less shabby chic and a more modern feeling.
So when a friend who was moving offered me this beauty for FREE I knew I had found my new dresser.
While it had some issues (like this giant stain on the top, a large chunk of missing veneer on the front drawer and multiple deep scratches)
I just loved the overall shape of it and knew with a little elbow grease she could be a BEAUTY again.
DRESSER TOP MCM MID CENTURY MOD DRESSER SANDED STRIPPED MAKEOVER

This post is a sponsored post or  uses affiliate links to help you find the products I trust and love
First thing I did was strip and sand the top.
Since these older dresser tend to have quite a bit of lacquer on the top I eventually had to pull out my Belt sander!
http://amzn.to/2mU2C5K
It made quick work of the top.
Then I just needed to sand the top with some fine grit sandpaper,
use some tac cloth to remove and residue and I could move on to re staining the top.
MINWAX WOOD FINISH STAIN AND SEAL IPSWICH PINE MCM MID CENTURY MOD DRESSER MAKEOVER

Since I loved the original color I decided to use Minwax wood finish in Ipswich Pine to bring the wood back to the original color.

Once it was dry I used a couple of coats of WIPE ON POLY to seal the top and the drawer front that I also sanded and stained.

Once all the wood finish was taken care of I could move on to painting.
Since I wanted to keep the dresser pretty neutral I went with a very light gray.
I used General finishes Seagull Gray Milk Paint to finish off the base and all the drawer fronts.
While those were drying I used gold spray paint to bring life back to the worn out but very mod hardware.

I couldn't be happier with how it turned out!
Just changing this one piece of furniture changed the whole feel of our bedroom!

The room feels bigger not having the huge armoire in there.

And it gives me the perfect place to keep my jewelry on my vintage brass parrot jewelry holder that I got thrifting!

I am so Thankful that my friend thought of me when getting rid of this piece.
I hope I did it justice since had been in her family for a long time.
Until next time,
Go make something BEAUTIFUL!
