Before and After Thrifted Dresser Makeover

vintage laminate white washed oak chest of drawers dresser makeover before
Welcome back my Beauties!
Long time no new makeover!
Life has been busy here as is the usual with our family and
after everything that happened with my Mom and other family members this past year, I have finally learned to give myself a break once in awhile with publishing new makeovers.
It's not that I haven't been creating; I do that almost every day.
Its that I don't push myself to stage and photograph every piece that goes into my booth now.
I pick a few of my faves and if I have the chance I photograph those and then bring them into CHANGING THYMES .
If I don't have time and don't want to kill myself in between soccer games and practices and all the other Taxi driving, then I just bring them in.
Luckily we caught a break this week with the rain and got a few cold but sunny days, so I was able to photograph before bringing some pieces in.
You can see from the above pictures, that this dresser was in pretty rough condition.
I spotted it at the local thrift store and couldn't say no to the $10 price tag.
I threw this baby in my truck and brought her home to show her new life!

First things first was the top.
It was that fake paper covered laminate and it had multiple bubbled areas. No amount of sanding was gonna be able to smooth that out.
So I chose to do a layered effect on the top.First I used Americana Decor Satin Enamels in Chestnut for the top base color and then two different of their Gray Shades distressed over each other.

For the top I decided to use my old Large geometric floor stencil and the darkest of the gray paints I used on the top.
Once it was dry I distressed the top all over!
While the top was drying I painted the base in a custom blue mix!

You can see the layers of colors coming through after the distressing. It helped to disguise all those nasty worn areas on the top.  For the hardware I  used Gold Spray paint to repaint the old worn out hardware giving it new life again!

I am thrilled with how it turned out and how the layering on the top with the stencil really added another dimension to this basic rectangular box of a dresser.

It really turned it from Basic to Beautiful!

Now it is headed into my booth for someone else to enjoy.
I was so happy to be able to save this piece and so glad I took the chance on it, even when I had NO IDEA how I was going to transform it.

So go ahead, and take a chance on that piece you have been wondering about.
I think you will be happy you did,
I know I am!
Until next time,
Go make someones day BEAUTIFUL!

Gray and Gold Distressed HoneyComb Stencilled Dresser Makeover

beat up free dresser turned gray and gold honeycomb stencilled beauty bohochic home decor makeover before and after

Welcome back my BEAUTIES!
Sorry I have been absent so far this week.
Soccer season has started and that means lots of running around.
Not to mention the stress of try outs and waiting to see if my daughter would be making the team..
HAPPILY she made the Varsity team, and we basically started out of the GATE with double scrimmages on Saturdays and a game under our belt already!
I'm not even playing and I am TIRED!!
:)
Anywhoo...what I did manage to work on was this awesome free dresser that a sweet friend of mine gave me.

The same friend that gave me this Beautiful Mid Century Mod dresser  that I made over!
They have been going through a lot also so if you have any good thoughts you could send their way I know they would appreciate it!
My friend is pretty awesome as well as her whole family, and when they had some furniture to unload they knew who would take it off their hands! :)
I love furniture donations!!! :)

To get the piece started I gave it a good sanding and wipe down and then chose
to cover the whole piece with.

It was looking better already.
Now you know I can't leave a plain ole boxy dresser alone.
I wasn't sure what I wanted to do and then I remembered I had this awesome stencil!

I grabbed some gold paint and my brush and got to work.

The dresser had some imperfections in it so I didn't want my gold paint to look to perfect or even. I stencilled on all the drawer fronts and then lightly sanded over it to give it a bit of a distressed feel.
Once it was dry I but the original hardware that I spray painted gold back onto the dresser.

And this is how it turned out.
I love the gray and gold color combination.
Its feels a bit classy, a bit bohemian, and mostly, FUN!

When I look at it now it makes me smile.

Well that's it for this makeover!
I hope you liked the transformation.
I am going to try to squeeze in one more makeover before next weekend since we will be leaving for a fun spring break as a family.
We are needing the down time of no schedules and no ALARM clocks for a week!
Until next time,
I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL day!

Minted iKAT Fabric Simple Chair Makeover

This is a sponsored post and I received product in return for this post, but all opinions and mine and true.

 Welcome back my Beauties!
I know we are screeching into the end of the year like Gang Busters.
That being said I still wanted to show a small makeover I completed, this last month.
It was nice because it didn't take much to transform this old tired chair.
I started with this beat up yellow painted chair.
It had seen better days.
I took the seat off before I remembered to take a picture.
(what could I say, I was in THE ZONE)

and gave it a couple coats.
When it was dry I used some Clear wax and some dark wax to finish off the piece and buffed it up.

Now it was time for the really fun part.
The Fabric.
I fell in love with this I-kat Fabric from Minted and I knew it would be the perfect
thing for this chair.
I loved the simple geometric pattern and color of this fabric.
One of the things I LOVE about Minted is they  believe that great design lives and thrives in the hands of independent artists that people do not have access to through traditional retailers. Minted uses technology to allow consumers to discover great creative talent, making Minted a place where artists can learn, gain exposure, and build their businesses. Minted is a design marketplace. They source creative content from a global community of independent artists, then sell the best content in the form of art, home décor, and stationery, directly to consumers.
Its why I love all the fabric choices they have.

I recovered the seat and affixed it back to the chair and she was ready for her closeup.

I love how it turned out and gave this vintage chair a little more modern flair!
Thank you so much for stopping over and
I hope you have a BEAUTIFUL new year!
I will be back NEXT YEAR...:)
with even more makeovers!

Fab Flippin Furniture Contest GEOMETRIC Makeover

 Good Morning my Beauties!
Its time for another Fab Flippin Furniture Makeover.
This month at the Fab Furniture Flippin' Contest, it's all about "Geometric Design".
So welcome September and what better way to bring in one of my favorite months than to have General Finishes sponsor it!!
For this months makeover I decided to take this plain jane chair and Jazz it up with some Geometric Fabric and some awesome General finishes
Somerset Gold Milk Paint.

General Finishes makes painting not only fun, but if you are new to painting or their line, they helpful videos on YouTube to help guide through the process.  I love that if I feel stuck or if someone asks about a process, I can go right to their General Finishes YouTube channel to watch a step by step guide!!

You can see here that I started with a plain and simple old chair. the chair was structurally fine but had some scratches and grooves in the wood.
I lightly sanded those down and got to painting with my gorgeous Somerset Gold Milk paint.

once I gave the chair two coats of paint I removed the seat and started recovering it using some fun geometric fabric.
Once I recovered the seat I screwed the seat back on.
I love how the color of the paint and the fun fabric transformed this once plain and boring chair into
something fun and funky!

I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover and
I hope that you check out some of my friends who are participating in the Fab Flippin Furniture Contest.
