Fabulous French Graphic and Colorful Coral dresser MAKEOVER

We are camping so I am hitting replay on a favorite of mine!

Good Morning my BEAUTIES!!

I finally have a new furniture makeover to share with you.
Its not that I haven't been painting furniture,
its that I have been too busy to edit and post.
But after your long wait I give you my
Fabulous French Graphic and Colorful Coral Dresser Makeover.
The day after we got home from our trip to Durango I started working on this baby.
(this was BEFORE the fire) You can read about that HERE

I had picked up this dresser from a thrift shop.
Now it looks like its in good shape but see all that white stuff...??
Its a white mildew.
The thing had obviously been stored somewhere that didn't breathe well.
It also wasn't stained wood. It was painted to look like wood...?? Kind of an oxymoron
I know??? Wood painted to look like wood. :)

I grabbed my trusty Belt sander and thought I would bring this baby back to a nice
wood finished top............UHHHHHHHH NO..
Even after belt sanding the some how crazy scientific paint lab grade paint job
you could see that it wasn't going anywhere...Once I got through the brown paint layers,
you coud see that there was another layer of cream paint....
SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.... Change of plans...

Since the dresser was behaving like a DIVA, I decided she was going to look like a Diva!
I grabbed my CeCe Caldwells Coral paint and got to work.
I painted on 2 thin layers of the coral paint and let it dry.
Then I waxed it and buffed it.
Once she was prepped and ready I decided she still needed a little more
BLING!
I grabbed my reusable Mylar stencil that
a nice person on Etsy. had made me.
Lauren does amazing work and she made this specifically for a project I was working on.

I had her use a free graphic from Karen the Graphics Fairy
and she cut it into three seperate sections.
I used this stencil and some Navy craft paint to stencil on my
Fabulous French Graphic.

Once the Navy paint was dry I waxed it and buffed it again to give it
that age old finish.

I added some Mercury Glass knobs from Hobby Lobby and she was ready for her Close up!
I love how the Navy Pops against the Coral.
Classic, but fun and fabulous!

I hope you enjoyed this latest Makeover and hope you will come back
tonight when the Twirl and Take a Bow Link Party
goes up.
We would all love to see all the latest fun stuff you have been up to.
Until Next time,

Table and Chair Makeover and One year Anniversary for Caledonia Vintage Marketplace

 Good Morning my Beauties.
Its CRAZY time here again at the ART IS BEAUTY home
thanks to spring sports and the finally NICE spring weather
making people shop and buy furniture.

Its been so busy, that I didn't even have time to take pictures of the BEFORE on this table
and chair set I just redid!
I had purchased this gorgeous Designer fabric at Goodwill for 2 bucks.
I had been saving it waiting to use it with the perfect project.
Well this table was it.
I grabbed it at a 50% off sale at the thrift store.
I didn't have time to take a picture for the before because my booth at Changing Thymes was
decimated....WHICH is  GREAT ! But that meant I was in over drive working on furniture
I had to sand the top of the table and bring it down to the bare wood.
I then stained it and when it was dry I used a stencil along the same lines of the fabric to paint on a runner.

after the stenciled runner was dry. I lightly sanded and distressed it
and then Poly'd the whole top.
I think it was the perfect compliment to the fabric I used on the chairs.

Now, not to mention the filling of the 2 booths at Changing Thymes
but it is also the 1 YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the Opening of the store
I can't believe that just a year ago it looked like the above.
Now if you could see the place...which I really think you should...:)
it is bustling with the most beautiful vingettes
and furniture you have ever seen.
I love to go in just to feel like I am sitting in a magazine..:)
Here was a picture of my booth....that I am now going into fill because my KINDEL
chest of drawers just sold...and I have to be ready for that anniversary SALE!
9968 Cherry Valley Ave., Caledonia, Michigan 49316
The anniversary celebration begins when the store opens on Friday, May 2nd. We will have sales and refreshments beginning at 10:00am. The sales will continue on Saturday, May 3rd as well. The outdoor market will take place on Saturday from 10:00am until 5:00pm. The store hours for both days are 10-7.
 So there you have it...
If you see me running around like a chicken with its head cut off..
or if I have fallen asleep in my booth...
please just gently prod me to wake up..
AND GET BACK TO WORK! :)

Now off I go....
Go make someones day BEAUTIFUL!

Painted Cedar Chest Makeover

Good Morning again my Beauties...I hope the weekend left you healthy and happy.
We got half that part. Illness has hit us in the first week back to school and is
slowly grabbing on to any host that it can find. Luckily only 3 out of 6 of us have been lucky enough to
enjoy its visit. Hoping the other 3 are left unscathed...FINGERS CROSSED.
WELP...before I was one of the lucky 3 to get infested, I was able to finish this cedar chest.
I happened to start it when I had to go pick up my son from school on the FIRST week of school because
he was in the nurses office. I figured if I was gonna be stuck at the house and he was sleeping I might as well get a project going.

I had bought this cedar chest a couple weeks ago. I loved the detail but the veneer was shot.

This in addition to the veneer was not helping things...its about 1/4 inch thick of some sort of glue and newspaper..

It took me forever even with my beloved belt sander to even get it to where it was smooth with the rest of the top. I don't know what it was but they should put up buildings with it cause it wasn't going anywhere.

Once the prep work was finally done I could get started with my paint. I custom mixed
a couple of blues that I had and started painting. I loved the look but I wanted the detail to pop more.
That's where I grabbed one of my royal design stencils and started to stencil the top.
I just wanted to high light it and not overdo it.
I then also painted all the detail work with the same paint and when dry,
distressed and waxed it.

I really love how it came out and how it still has its feminine feel

and how the stencil detail adds to the original detail.

It even still has the original price tags and add inside with the date..

and here she sits in my booth in CALEDONIA VINTAGE MARKETPLACE,
waiting for someone to take her home.
Well hopefully by the time you read this, I will be well on my way to feeling better and
back at doing what I love to do, and hopefully the rest of the clan stays healthy.
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover and I hope you
have a BEAUTIFUL day!
Hugs
Karin
