Not so PERFECT Vintage Desk and Free Vanity Bench Makeover

Hitting REPLAY on an old post.
ENJOY!

Good Morning My Beauties!
Last night I asked on FACEBOOK if you guys would like to see
NOT SO PERFECT posts.
You guys said yes...SO here is the first one.
Last night I explained that when I get super busy, I don't have time to
set and photograph all the pieces.
Sometimes I have about 10 minutes before I have to bring some pieces in.
This set was one of them.

The desk started out like this.
Your typical wood and metal old school desk.

The bench started like this.
My lovely sister gave it to me.
Its an old vanity bench. it was in great condition but needed an update.
I grabbed some gold spray paint and started painting the legs.
I had no idea what I was going to do yet.
But once I started painting I got in the groove.
I painted the wood part of the base a nice mint green and then started
on the bench.
I painted the bench a cream color and found some cool coordinating
fabric to pull it all together.
Now to the not so perfect addition. In my attempt to recover this bench
I learned how to do the special BACK covering. I thought it went pretty good but
the nail head trim went in a little crooked.
But like I said this is a NOT so PERFECT post!

Here it is. The finished set...
The not so perfect...
finished set.
I hope you enjoyed this post.
Thankfully someone else enjoyed this because it sold pretty quick
after I brought them into the booth.
Well that was the first of our
NOT so PERFECT posts.
I hope you enjoyed.
Until next time.
Go make someones day Beautiful!

"Icing on the Cake" Hall Table Makeover

This post is a sponsored post or  uses affiliate links to help you find the products I trust and love

Hello, My Beauties!
I have a super fun, super glam and funky makeover for you guys today!

I am part of the Fab Furniture Flippin' Group and this months
Makeover was "Icing on the Cake"

Our sponsor for this months FLIP was
 D. Lawless Hardware!  It's a family owned and operated company that specializes in hardware, catches, casters, and even wood appliqués.  He has amazingly low prices as well as the wonderful customer service. They have some beautiful  hardware that can be the "Icing on the Cake".

Here is the piece I started with.
I picked up this piece for $10 at a barn sale from another mom who had the Best intention of making it over, but just couldn't get around to it.
You can see that structurally it was sound..just outdated in the white and golden oak.
Plus the top was very beat up and her son had even etched his name in the top :)
I started by sanding the top down a bit to get some of the deep grooves out.
I don't mind distressed but sometimes its nice to smooth things out a little.
I then painted the base in a General Finishes Gray milk paint.
You can see here, the first coat going on.

I gave the base a couple coats of gray the top ONE coat and then decided to do some General Finishes Java Gel stain on the top to add dimension.
When all that was dry I painted another layer of silver paint on the top to give a bit more POP, FUNK, and GLITZ to the top. When that was dry I lightly distressed the top so you could see the multiple layers beneath it.
Here is a close up of the finished top, with the hardware I chose to be the ICING on the CAKE for my piece. I chose the GREEN CUT GLASS KNOBS to accent my piece.
I have always loved the way vintage greens and grays play off each other and give such a fun and classic statement.
I hope you enjoyed this fun and funky makeover and I hope you will pop on over to see what all my bloggy friend have done with their pieces.

Exciting FUN News at the ART is BEAUTY Blog!

FUN THINGS ARE HAPPENING!
I have been hinting to this for a while,
but I can finally now SPILL the beans!

A few months ago I was asked by
to take a chance on her and her idea.
She was going to get an event started for us Mid West Bloggers.
If you know anything about blogger meet ups they tend to be to out EAST or out WEST.
Not a lot of choices for us IN THE MIDDLE.
It means air travel and time away from family.
I have never been to a conference YET...I just didn't have the TIME..or the MONEY to make a big trip for blogging happen.
But now I finally can.
This event is part of a Randolph Street Market.

It is America's Largest and Liveliest Urban Antique Market with over 300 vendors.
In other words...HEAVEN!
I get to do a DIY segment on Saturday Afternoon.
My KIDS get to come with me!
They get to be a part of what I do.
How great is that.
If you are a blogger in the MID WEST...this is a great opportunity to meet other bloggers and network.
Be sure to check out the LINK to the Event HERE
Or even if you are Local in the area, come out and say "HI"
I would love to see some of my readers in REAL LIFE!

 So that's all for now!
I would love if you shared the event and
told your friends.
We are a bunch of small bloggers with BIG dreams!
We would love to share that dream with you!
Until Next time;
Go make some ones day BEAUTIFUL!

Quick Kitchen Backsplash Makeover using Smart Tiles.

Good Morning my Beauties!
I have a fun but NOT SO PERFECT post for you today.
Now its not the project that isn't perfect;
its my photos.
When I started this project I didn't know I was going to post about it,
but I was so excited I figured you guys could handle my iphone photos
just to see the transformation.

As I have been showing in my Facebook page which you can Follow HERE,
you may or may not know I have been working on Making over
my sisters condo.
This is what we started with.
Some very out of date wallpaper.
Not my sisters style at all.
We stripped all the wallpaper and she got to painting thew walls.
Once the paper was stripped we were trying to decide what we were going to do for the back splash.

In a moment of Serendipity we both at different times stumbled upon
this product called SMART TILES.
I had never seen or heard of them and neither had my sister until
we started looking for an easy back splash solution.

I sanded and cleaned the back splash and got to work.
One of the great part of these tiles is they fit together much like a puzzle
and you only need a utility knife to cut them.

Now I told you the pictures are not the best (my niece shot this one with her iphone while I was installing)
The whole back splash took me just under 2 hours.
You can see here how I quickly made my way across the back of the wall.

and here is the finished product.
My sister and brother in law love it and
we got many compliments through out the day of mad people who had spent WAY to much on real tile when they could have had the look of tile without the Cost.
The great thing for you guys is I will be able to show you a better DIY of this product.
I loved it so much I am going to use it myself.
So stay tuned for another, better quality picture and detailed write up
of this product.
I am so excited to start.
I hope you enjoyed this latest makeover.
Even if the pictures are kind of cruddy, I hope you can see what a change this made.
Until next time, go make someones day Beautiful!

Beat up BUFFET turned Mint and Gold BEAUTY

Good Morning my Beauties.
I am super excited to show you the latest makeover.
I have been working on lots and lots of pieces but when I got this piece
I couldn't wait to start on it, and even more so; show you guys the makeover!

This is how it began. I went to my local thrift shop and they had just put out this beauty.
Now I know others wouldn't see the Beauty in her, but  could!!

She wasn't much to look at at first but I could see beyond the beat up exterior and years of use and abuse.
I got to work stripping the top but it ended up taking the BIG GUNS to get it done!
Yup, you guessed it; The BELT sander!
The years of old paint wouldn't strip off so the sander had to get it done.
I got the rest of the paint stripped off the top and prepped her for stain.
I used a nice dark Provincial for the top and got the base ready for painting.
As much as I loved the old pulls, they were not all there.
So I had to improvise.
I got started filling the old holes and then got to painting.
Once that was ready I pulled out my paint.
My Faux Real Mineral paint in Brava.
The perfect color for my Beauty.
I started to work on her.

I was so excited how much she was transforming already.
When she was dry I distressed, waxed and buffed her and then had to work out what I was going to do for the hardware.

I found some old vintage pulls from an old project and pulled off the back circular plate that is usually behind them.
I sprayed them with one of my favorite gold spray paints and let them dry.
Then it was time to install them.
I loved how the round pulls accentuated the rectangular shape of the whole piece.

Now I hope you can see why I was so excited to show you guys the transformation!
As usual I almost kept this for myself,
but I got it out of the garage as fast as I could in order to save myself from MYSELF...:)
I hope you enjoyed the latest makeover!
Until next time,
